Job Description

WB Games Montreal, a division of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE), seeks a Game Design Team Lead to support the Gameplay Associate Producer in overseeing tasks and deadlines for the game design team.

As Team Lead you will follow up on and validate task completion and support team members while overseeing part of the development of the game as necessary. After your onboarding, you will gradually be responsible to manage all or a part of the Game Design team.

Responsibilities

  • Create, prioritize, assign, and regularly follow up on tasks and the advancement of the team’s work concerning deliverables.
  • Represent the team in inter-team meetings.
  • Organize and lead team meetings.
  • Coordinate and run individual meetings to support each Game Designers in their progression.
  • Know the games story and gameplay (game design documents) and understand the technical/artistic constraints to be able to lead/coach the team.
  • Anticipate and recognize potential conflicts and recommend solutions to the Game Director and gameplay Associate Producer for the team.
  • Be a support for mentors on the team in terms of technical/artistic aspects of game design for team members (where necessary).
  • Take part in performance assessments in collaboration with the Game Director and Associate Producer.
  • Coordinate bug correction as it pertains to the team’s work.
  • Ensure that new employees integrate well into the team.
  • Carry out all other related tasks

Job Qualifications

Experience

  • 4+ years of game industry experience with at least 2 years in the role of game designer is required.
  • Having worked on a minimum of 2 shipped console/PC titles in a designer, coordinator, or leadership role

Education

  • A degree or formal education in Game Design or Production is valued but not required

Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience with designing gameplay systems for an open world game.
  • Experience designing gameplay features for an action game.
  • Strong technical awareness: understanding how design is affected by constraints from different disciplines (technical constraints from code, but also animation)
  • Experience of design in a systemic gameplay environment, especially where multiple gameplay systems/components interact
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with JIRA and Perforce
  • Experience in Unreal Engine is an asset.
