WB Games Montreal, a division of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE), seeks a Senior Concept Artist, Storyboards to create a wide range of conceptual content to inspire and communicate the visual direction of an upcoming AAA console title.

 

Your New Role…

In this role, you will work closely with various Art Directors responsible for narrative, gameplay and cinematics to define the tone and characters' actions into 2D visuals. To succeed in this position, you need to be able to problem solve, self-critique, self-direct, and own important portions of the concept workload, guiding and inspiring the animation, narrative, and design teams.

 

You will work closely with the Leads and other artists in the interdisciplinary groups to help push the visual storytelling and uphold the aesthetic vision of the game while maintaining the highest level of consistency and quality.

 

Your Role Accountabilities...
  • Understand the project's creative vision and be able to translate the cinematic intention into storytelling and gameplay sequences base on the Director's notes.
  • Contribute to overall art direction and offer ideas as to how to best visually transmit it.
  • Understand cinematography, visual storytelling, camera language and mise-en-scene
  • Craft visually inspiring, high-fidelity storyboards and animatics that set the quality bar for storytelling on screen
  • Create concept art that enables the creative to adhere to a coherent game vision through narrative details, character types or personality proxies and emotional intentions, etc.
  • Be collaborative with the production team and adhere to shared information deployment best practices.
  • Regularly present your work to the leadership and adapt to the feedback provided.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, brainstorms, and projects.
  • Create highly efficient workflows that allows you to maximize your time, consistently deliver compelling work, as well as revise work in a timely fashion.

 

Qualifications & Experience…
  • 5+ years of experience in video game development and have worked on a published AAA game in this capacity.
  • Having a portfolio/website demonstrating your artistic skills.
  • Creative, focused, self-motivated, resourceful problem-solver.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; bilingualism French-English is a desired asset.
  • Advanced Photoshop expertise.
  • Strong drawing skills with a keen sense of design, appeal, character acting, and composition.
  • Knowledge of editing in a 3rd party software such as Adobe After Effects and Premiere.
  • Ability to create actions / emotions/facial expressions to convey ideas on screen.
  • Passion for storytelling with cinematics as a visual medium.
  • Interest for game as a medium and basic understanding for game pipeline and Unreal Engine, a plus.
