Job Description
WB Games Montreal seeks an Senior Advanced Game Designer.
Your New Role…
In this role you will be responsible for designing and executing major gameplay features and be as a subject matter expert in support of the production team. You will act as an resource and be the main point of contact for the local team and support production to coordinate efforts with other disciplines involved for with the features the design pod owns.
Using your knowledge and expertise, you will support the team as a mentor and reference for all things that relate to the design of your assigned area. As such, you will help ensure follow-up, task completion validation process and maintain a healthy work environment for everyone.
Your Role Accountabilities...
- Own the design and execution of a key game feature and/or a major part of a large game feature system.
- Create, prioritize, assign, and regularly follow up on tasks and the advancement of the team’s work concerning deliverables for a specific project.
- Represent the team in inter-team meetings.
- Know the games story, the gameplay, the game design documentation and understand the technical/artistic constraints to be able to coach the team.
- Anticipate and recognize potential risks and recommend solutions to the production team.
- Be a mentor on the team, coach and support growth of junior colleagues.
- Improve the design team process and communication.
- Help the design team to push the quality of their features.
- Coordinate bug correction as it pertains to the pod’s work.
- Ensure that new employees and internal transfers integrate well into the project.
Qualifications & Experience…
- 12+ years of game industry experience in a game designer role
- Having worked on a minimum of 2 shipped AAA console/PC titles.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; being bilingual French/English is a highly desired asset.
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain clear and concise documentation.
- Experience with designing gameplay systems for an open world game.
- Experience designing gameplay features for an adventure game.
- Strong technical awareness: understanding how design is affected by constraints from different disciplines (technical constraints from code, but also animation)
- Experience of design in a systemic gameplay environment, especially where multiple gameplay systems/components interact.
- Familiarity with JIRA and Perforce.
- Experience with Unreal Engine is an asset.
