WB Games Montreal, a division of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE), seeks a Lead Game Designer.

 

 

Your New Role…

In this role, you will be responsible for some system mandates as well as managing a small team, including inter-team dependencies. Working closely with the production team, you will pre-validate game design features and ensure the completion of your team's various tasks, as well as accompany and mentor them in their professional growth.

 

Your Role Accountabilities...
  • Create, prioritize, assign, and regularly follow up on tasks and the advancement of the team’s work.
  • Take ownership of various game systems and work in collaboration with the technical and artistic teams involved to execute a cohesive game vision aligned with the creative and gameplay direction.
  • Represent the team in inter-team meetings.
  • Organize and lead team meetings.
  • Coordinate and run individual meetings to support each Game Designers in their professional growth.
  • Know the game's story, the gameplay, the game design documentation and understand the technical/artistic constraints to be able to lead/coach the team.
  • Anticipate and recognize potential conflicts and recommend solutions to the game direction and production team.
  • Provide support on technical or artistic aspects of game design for your team members as necessary.
  • Take part in performance assessments in collaboration with the senior leadership and production team.
  • Coordinate bug correction as it pertains to the team’s work.
  • Ensure that new employees integrate well into the team.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience…
  • 6+ years of game industry experience the role of game designer.
  • Having worked on a minimum of 2 AAA titles console/PC titles in as a designer, bonus points for leadership experience (formal or informal).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; being bilingual French/English is a highly desired asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain clear and concise documentation.
  • Strong technical awareness: understanding how design is affected by constraints from different disciplines (technical constraints from code, but also animation)
  • Experience of design in a systemic gameplay environment, especially where multiple gameplay systems/components interact.
  • Experience designing game features for an open world adventure game is a plus.
  • Familiarity with JIRA and Perforce.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine is an asset.
